Delving deeper into the second cycle of the Amouage narrative, Creative Director Christopher Chong introduces “Myths”, the second chapter of ‘Portraits of a Life’. Depicting Chong’s Chinese descent and personal metamorphoses in life, the Amouage narrative now explores ‘life as a dream’ through the expressive art of opera. “Myths is essentially inspired by surrealism, in which elements are assembled in a dream-like and distorted state in order to create a new interpretation,” says Chong. “Through surrealism, I was able to interpret my life experiences in an artistic way, without reason or convention, to create fragrances that truly represent a combination of the many facets of my past”. Opera has been a long time muse of Chong, which is reflected in his latest creation for man and woman. Characterised by symbolic and suggestive movements, the Beijing Opera reflects the beauty of the Chinese heritage, and portrays the story behind the Creative Director. Chong overlaps his experiences of the Chinese, Western, and Arab cultures to create a sub-culture of fusions and ambivalence.
